ProzacAwareness is a support group for individuals who have had a negative reaction to
antidepressants (amongst them the Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs)) and/or are experiencing
(withdrawal) side-effects from them.
Furthermore we encourage those who have suffered the loss of a beloved one due to antidepressant medication
(-either suicide or homicide-), to join this internet board. Feel free to share your experience, you are most
definitely NOT alone!
Why this name, ProzacAwareness? Because "Prozac" was the first agressively marketed
serotonin boosting/acting drug. You may consider all other serotonin boosters as "Prozac-clones". Take note that
Sarafem is the same drug as Prozac (Fluoxetine).
Update Aug 4, 2004:
The maker of Prozac, Eli Lilly & Company, has brought a new antidepressant onto the market under the name of
Cymbalta (duloxetine). It is approved by the FDA despite risk of suicide, self-harm and liver toxicity.
Cymbalta is very similar to Prozac (Sarafem, fluoxetine) but also acts on nor-epinephrine which makes it an SSNRI.
Cymbalta (duloxetine) is most closely related to Wyeth's SSNRI Effexor (Efexor, venlafaxine). Effexor is known to be highly toxic
and severe side-effects have been reported repeatedly with Effexor use and/or discontinuation.
Effexor has listed side-effects such as akathisia & mania, delirium, hallucinations and paranoid delusion,
following use and/or discontinuation of the drug.

A recent clinical trial to test Cymbalta (duloxetine) in healthy volunteers, that started in early January 2004, was conducted
by Eli Lilly & Company to ascertain how Cymbalta interacts with other medicines and to evaluate how the human body
metabolizes Cymbalta. In this recent clinical trial a very tragic incident occurred.
Traci Johnson, a 19 year old woman who participated as a healthy volunteer in this clinical trial to earn some
extra money in order to be able to pay for her Bible College study, had been given Cymbalta for several weeks. She
was one of the many students taking part in clinical trials as a way to earn money and pay tuition.
After taking a placebo for 4 days, she committed suicide on the 7th of February 2004, by hanging herself
(-tying a scarf to a bathroom shower rod-) in Lilly Laboratory for Clinical Research.

What could have happened? With the latest knowledge regarding severe withdrawal reactions that are repeatedly being
observed in SSRI/SSNRI discontinuation, as reported by physicians in Effexor, it is not difficult to understand that Traci Johnson
suffered from severe withdrawal reactions after discontinuation of Cymbalta.
Why hanging? Why such a violent method? Cymbalta is a drug that similar to Prozac (Sarafem, fluoxetine) acts on serotonin
and next to it on nor-epinephrine in the brain. It is not a coincidence that violent methods of suicide have been
associated with the serotonin acting drug Prozac (Sarafem, fluoxetine) before.
See: Fluoxetine and Violent Death in Maryland: violent methods in fluoxetine suicides.
Clearly, Cymbalta (duloxetine) is another very powerful mind-altering and potentially lethal new antidperessant to
protect yourself and your children from.
Other examples of serotonin, dopamine and/or nor-epinephrine acting antidepressants are:
Wellbutrin or Zyban (Bupropion); Paxil, Seroxat, Aropax or Pexeva (Paroxetine); Zoloft or Lustral (Sertraline);Celexa or Cipramil (Citalopram); Lexapro or Cipralex (Escitalopram);
Buspar or Neurosine (Buspirone); Serzone or Dutonin (Nefazodone); Desyrel (Trazodone); Remeron (Mirtazapine); Meridia or
Reductil (Sibutramine); Effexor (Venlafaxine); Luvox or Fevarin (Fluvoxamine), etc.
Another purpose of ProzacAwareness is to raise awareness to these prescription drugs.
All of the group members went through different negative experiences with (SSRI) anti-depressants (direct or indirect)
and are from different backgrounds. Find great support from individuals who survived their ordeals!
In July 2000, Cynthia Garcia and I started this group to support people who were experiencing negative reactions to
(SSRI) anti-depressants. Furthermore it was our goal to raise people's awareness to the capacity of these drugs as
well as the clever marketing tactics used by the pharmaceutical industry. A lot has happened since 2000. More
internet support groups were established and people found each other and started to educate themselves. I am
delighted to see the developments that have been taken place over the last 3 years. There's a huge group of
different people now in the United Kingdom and the United States intensively networking with each other, exchanging
information and most important, support and educate individuals who are experiencing side-effects whilst ingesting
these prescription drugs or are trying to withdraw themselves from them.
Important: ProzacAwareness is a group with an opposed view to (SSRI) anti-depressants.
Group members are experiencing more or less severe side-effects from them.
One of these side-effects is an extreme hypersensitivity to light,
sound, supplements, herbs and fabricated vitamins. We do not recommend to expose your body to synthetic chemicals
whilst experiencing more or less severe hypersensitivity of the nervous system. We rather recommend to get your
essential elements from preferably organic low acid food. Eat enough fruit and preferably vegetables in a balanced diet, and
drink lots of water.
If you recently experienced a reaction to an (SSRI) anti-depressant, read our suggestions first.
